Inspired by fellow tradies, Trade Shades are designed and brought to life to make your everyday life safer without compromising style. Having worked alongside tradies on site for years, I’ve noticed a pattern of safety glasses being avoided far too frequently. I’ve experienced it myself when a copper cable sprang into my face while stripping cables, almost costing me an eye.

The construction industry in the United Kingdom is booming, and we’re banding together. From the recent petition 'Ban the Sale of Used Power Tools at Car Boot Sales and Markets', we see evidence of thousands of us working together to improve each other’s lives. The community is strong, and we want to harness your voices in developing Trade Shades to truly make a difference in your lives.

We’re not going to beat around the bush or mislead you. Safety is serious, so we're being upfront. Trade Shades are designed for everyday eye protection, suitable for any time of day. Because at the end of the day - the best safety eyewear is the one you'll actually wear. Trade Shades are NOT a fully comprehensive eye protection solution against all hazards but are safety eyewear designed for everyday use. We encourage switching to goggles or specialised eye protection for specific tasks.

A little bit about us.

Tradies, how’s it going? I'm Fraser, an electrician and the founder of Trade Shades. I started the company in October 2023 because I felt tradies have been overlooked as real people, and Trade Shades could positively impact our lives.

For too long, we've been handed disposable, bog-standard safety glasses. We want something with better design and value. Traditional safety glasses lack thought and consideration in their design—it's no wonder we dislike wearing them. We take pride in our work and tools, so why not in our style and safety?

The problem with safety glasses today is that no one wants to wear them—they look cheap, feel cheap, are uncomfortable, scratch easily, and make us feel undervalued.

That's why we honed in on the essentials to create Trade Shades. After endless back-and-forth designing the perfect pair of safety glasses, it was time for testing. Investing every hard-earned penny from grueling overtime shifts into funding testing, I sent off the prototype pair to a testing facility for European and UK certifications. Thankfully, they passed. Now, after placing a significant first order, you can try them for yourselves.
